After a very nice Christmas break, I’m back with 4 interior trends for 2018. I think we will be seeing more of these trends pop up this year. I’m looking forward to hearing which one of these is your favourite.
Let me start by saying that trends are just that trends! They are not set fast rules you have to follow. Think of them more as a suggestion of what can work for you. You may follow these trends to a tee, mix them up or ignore them altogether it’s up to you. Your space should be exactly what and how you want it to be.
Interior trends follow fashion trends quite closely. We’ve seen colour blocking in fashion for a moment now. I think that this year it will be seen more wildly in interiors too. Not only on walls but also colour blocking using furniture pieces as you can see in the first image.
This year’s Flexa’s (Dulux) colour of the year is a powdery pinkish light brown hue called Heart Wood. This colour fits perfectly in the neutral pallet that is going to show up more and more in interiors this year. Brown is the new black as it were.
I think we will be seeing more of the botanical trend in interiors this year but with a little twist. You could not get away from botanical patterns turning up everywhere last year. From wallpaper to teacups they were all sporting some kind of beautiful leaf or a pineapple pattern. I think this year we will move away from the leaves and opt for wall art with images of beautiful nature shots. We’ll see a mix of the botanical style with the bohemian style. Layers and layers of colourful luscious rugs, cushions, plaids and yarn wallhangings made of natural materials combined with lots of plants and greenery.
This trend like the one above is a continuation of an earlier trend. This time the Geometric trend is more polished than before. The gallery wall to display your most precious pictures, art or prints is going to have a real moment again this year.
I would love to hear from you guys which one of these trends you would like to incorporate into your own space. Let me know in the comments below.
