Patches and pins are and have been all the rage for a while. They are the must have denim accessory for creating individual style. There are lots of great ones out there to choose from but I felt like making my own brooch pins but with a little twist. I’m showing you how to make your own embroidered brooch pins.
It’s easy and fun. All you need is some imagination and minimal sewing skills.
This is what you will need
- Embroidery floss
- Embroidery needle
- Embroidery hoop
- Vanishing ink pen for fabric
- Brooch pins
- Images to make into pins
- Fabric glue (not pictured)
Cut out a piece of light fabric to use as your base. I used a leftover piece of my IKEA VIVAN curtains. Make sure the fabric is bigger than your embroidery hoop. Sketch out your brooch design on a piece of paper or get my designs here. Trace your design on the fabric with the vanishing ink pen for fabric and put it in your embroidery hoop.
I was going for an origami look for my brooches. So I used black embroidery floss to trace all the lines of my designs. I used a simple backstitch for this part.
After this, you can go to town and fill in your designs with whatever colours you like.
Now that you’ve finished all the embroidering it’s time to cut out your designs and make them into individual brooch pins. When cutting out your designs make sure to leave plenty of room around each design. You will need a good edge to have a nice finish. Cut out a piece of felt for the back of your brooch. Sew the brooch pin to the piece of felt. Use the fabric glue to attach the embroidery to the piece of felt with the brooch pin attached to it.
Use a whipstitch to go all the way around the edge of your brooch. I used white embroidery floss for this part. Use a little fabric glue to stick down your embroidery floss to prevent it from fraying.
I would love to hear from you if you try one of my DIY projects. Leave me a message and tag @browngirldecor on social media using #BGDDIY so I can see your version of these embroidered brooches.
Till next time.
