Let me tell you a little secret. I don’t have the greenest thumb. I couldn’t even keep a cactus alive let alone make it thrive for more than 6 to 10 months. For a long time I just gave up on plants and stuck to cut flowers. Me and cut flowers did get along much better. We were like totally BFF’s. They would stick around for up to 9 whole days after purchase. So basically that proved to me that I am a decent person after all.
About 18 months (could be longer I don’t remember) ago my bestie gave a beautiful potted orchid. At first, I was very nervous about this delicate plant meeting my not so green thumb. But I decided to roll with it and see how long it would last. To my surprise, the orchid did very well and I got it to bloom several times. It stayed healthy until a few weeks ago when we had to say our goodbyes and part ways. Yep, it’s in the green bin now.
Ok, so you might be wondering by now why I’m telling you all this. Well, this whole experience with the orchid rekindled my desire to keep plants in my home. After we had our living room remodel I decided to go for it and purchase some new plants to decorate the living room with. I wanted to start slow with some small succulents first before going all out and getting my dream plant. More on my dream plant in just a moment. These are the members of my plant family at the moment.
I have been looking around the internet for inspiration on decorating our home with plants and I found lots of great examples. I wanted to share some of my favourites with you today.

This is my dream plant the fiddle fig leaf. I want one just like this one.
I’m very inspired by the Urbanjunglebloggers community. It’s a blog and a community started by Igor of Happy Interior Blog and Judith from Joelix that encourages people to incorporate more plants in their lives. At home, the office or even in their city. They just launched their first book. Go to the Urbanjunglebloggers blog here for more details on how to order. That book is already on my wishlist guys.
What kind of plants do you guys have in your home? Which are your favourites? Tell me in the comments below.
