You might know this by now but just in case you didn’t. Flexa – Akzo Nobel or Dulux for my UK friends announced the colour of the year for 2017 a few weeks ago. It’s called Denim Drift and it’s this gorgeous grayish blue that is very versatile. Denim drift is a shade of blue that can be combined with many different shades to suit your particular taste.

At the time of the announcement, I shared my updated teak hutch DIY. Did you catch that one? Well, I choose to redo the whole piece in chalkpaint. White for the exterior and a very deliciously rich blueish gray by Abbondanza called indigo night for the interior of the hutch. That blue colour I used go perfectly with the Denim Drift. O and just so you know blue is my favorite colour. I tried to deny it for a long time but I always come back to blue in its many different shades.
This colour of the year, Denim Drift fit’s in so perfectly with my taste I just had to work with it in our living/dining room. As you know we remodeled our living/dining room back in the spring. We choose white to be the base for the room, you can see it here. I wanted to take a moment to decide what to do with it next. I started a Pinterest board to collect my ideas and of course I looked to my favorite interior magazines and blogs for inspiration too. Here is the mood board I created wich is going to be my guide for decorating our living/dining room.
With the help of my sister in law Susan who by the way is an incredibly talented interior stylist (go check out her Instagram), I re-worked the flow of the room by shifting some furniture around and made plans to paint the wall in our nook where the tv and sofa are. I have some fun projects planned to finish off our living room so watch this space, guys.
I wanted to see how Denim Drift would look on our wall before going to town on the entire wall so I used Flexa’s colour tester (kleurtester) to see if I would love it in person. I received a 1-liter can and a colour tester in a goody bag during a blogger event so I could start right away. I thought the colour tester had the Denim Drift in it but it was another colour all together. It’s the darker blue you can see in the image below. It was not the one for us though. But the Denim Drift just hit the spot completely. I LOVE it.
So here it is the finished product. If you want to know more about the Flexa trend collection for 2017 visit their site here.
I need to share a mistake I made and I didn’t even realize until I had to rush back to the store for the second time to get more paint. I did not use a sealer for the wall before painting the Denim Drift. I just totally forgot for just a moment that all the walls had a new layer of decorative plaster on it after the remodel. I put on the first coat of Denim Drift on the walls and by the next day, I could see all these white spots coming through the blue. So don’t forget if you are painting a wall that just had a new layer of plaster or decorative plaster put on it use a wall sealer before anything else and you will save on paint.
I will be sharing some more pictures of our living room this weekend.
