Hi, guys, valentines day is almost here. We don’t do the whole flowers, chocolate and restaurant thing. I rather avoid all the valentine cliches myself. What I do like to do is send a little card or something special to friends and family around this day. A friend of mine just moved in with her boyfriend so I thought I would surprise them with a mini heart piñata filled with candy in the mail. A piñata makes any occasion festive don’t you think?
It’s easy and fun to make. Keep on reading to see how I did it.
This is what you will need.
- Glue (hot glue and craft glue)
- Crepe paper
- Masking tape
- Heart shape
Start by tracing your heart shape onto the cardboard and cut them out. You’ll need two hearts for this project. One for the front and one for the back to make your piñata. Cut a 5 cm wide strip of cardstock to go all the way around the heart shape. Use the masking tape to attach the cardstock to the heart shape. This step was a bit tricky on the first piñata. By the second one I had it down. I used the hot glue to fill in the little gaps to make the base a little more sturdy. But you can totally skip this step. Attach the other side of your heart piñata with more masking tape. Leave a little opening so you can fill your piñata with confetti and candy or whatever you like.
Now that your basic heart is made it’s time to decorate your piñata. I cut 2 cm wide strips of gold crepe paper and used the scissors to fringe the bottom of the paper. Use strips of crepe paper to cover all the edges of your piñata for a neater finish. Glue the fringed strips of crepe paper to all sides and let dry.
Fill your piñata with candy and confetti and you’re done.
I love to hear from you if you try one of my DIY projects. Leave me a message and tag @browngirldecor on social media using #BGDDIY so I can see your version of this mini heart piñata.
Till next time.
