Hi, we are Danielle (Food Love and Happiness) and Nelly (Brown Girl Decor Blog) welcome to our #NORULESCHRISTMAS series. For the next 4 weeks, we will be sharing a festive recipe and a fun DIY project each week. Why the name no rules Christmas? Well, we are breaking the rules of the traditional sit-down Christmas feast and serving dessert first.
Today we are sharing a recipe for a delicious pavlova with red fruit and an easy DIY marble platter to display it on. Well, actually I’m sharing two ways to DIY a marble tray.
I got a round marble tile at a local wood and stone yard. It’s nice and big at 38 cm across and has pink veins. The other piece of marble I got at another stone yard down the street from us. That one is an old piece of scrap marble. I asked for them to cut me a rectangular piece 25 x 50 cm and distress the edges for a more interesting finish.
This is what you’ll need:
- Piece of marble slab or tile
- Furniture protectors (felt, cork or
- Paint (paint markers and acrylic paint)
Start by cleaning your marble with soap and water. Attach the furniture protectors on the underside of your marble to prevent any scratches on your table. I used the paint to decorate the edges only. I used a coral pink paint marker for my round marble tray. The rectangle piece got an antique gold edge. That’s it really.
